Advantages: Some interesting points, Ashton Kutcher....
Disadvantages: You really have to concentrate if you miss one bit it can ruin the whole movie!
I'll admit when I saw this film in the shop it didn’t appeal despite the picture on the front! (Yes I'm a big Ashton Kutcher fan) But I thought hey I'm going to give this a go...I was blown away! It is priced at around £10 at Tesco but the price varies from £6 to £15 depending where you're shopping.
This is not Ashton Kutchers usual type of film at all, this is a million miles from the chirpy rom-com Just Married or the total slapstick hilarity of Dude Where’s My Car. But this is an absolute must see movie.
“A butterfly flaps its wings on one side of the world and causes a hurricane on the other side”
That’s basically the saying…it’s the point even the smallest of events have an influence on the bigger things in life…this film makes you see exactly how changing one moment can change everything!
It shows Evan (Ashton Kutcher) and his life, it shows how its all going one way and then cuts, to show how if he had just done one small thing different it would have changed everything. The film continues like this showing how one small thing can change not only your life but also the lives of everyone around you…and more. We have all heard of the Butterfly Effect…this film shows exactly what it means.
Not for those of you who are easily upset this film has scenes that many viewers may find slightly disturbing. It shows in a cold reality how terrible the effect of one moment can be. Although many of the things that happen are not actually shown in full you are left in no doubt as to what happened in that moment. The film is incredibly well written and so the things that are not seen are most certainly explained in detail. On this note the DVD has an option to view an alternate ending…for many this would be the safer option…I wont give it away but the actual ending is not easy to watch. I’m not easily offended or upset but I watched the original ending and it has stayed with me ever since. It’s not pleasant but defiantly worth watching if you like to be shocked.
The film is amazingly well written, acted and put together, every detail has been thought out to perfection and it is an extremely clever film. While the supporting cast are not huge stars they are by no means outshone by Kutcher, all of them play their roles with a brilliant versatility and compassion. It is a movie that asked a lot of its actors and each and everyone one of them did it justice.
This is not a film to be watched when you are likely to be distracted. It’s the kind of film that will need your undivided attention because if you miss the slightest detail it could ruin the whole film for you. I would recommend this film to anyone, if you love that kind of makes-you-think film, or even if like me you’re a chick flick lover...give it a go because your sure to be surprised.
It is one of those films that will stay with you forever.
Summary: a must see film that you wont forget
