"Change one thing, change everything"

The 'Butterfly effect' refers to The Chaos theory, the idea that something as small and insignificant as a butterfly flapping it's wings could cause an earthquake in another part of the world.

The plot
---------------------
As a young boy Evan finds than when something bad is about to happen he blacks out and blocks that memory from his mind. He can't remember many terrifying events which happened to him in childhood. On suggestion of his psychiatrist he starts to write journals of everything he can remember he has done in that day but there are always gaps in time.
Trouble sends him and his mum packing and they move away from town, Evan leaving his best friend Kayleigh with her violent dad and crazy brother. He promises he'll come back for her.

As Evan grows up his black outs stop until one day when he is reading through his old journals and he seems to be transported back to the day and learns what he missed.
He realises he can change the past and starts to tamper with it, whatever he does to try and make things right just seems to mess up another persons life. He can't do right for doing wrong.

His father also had the same problem, he was presumed unsafe and locked up in a mental institution and Evans mum worries he is heading the same way.....

What I think
-------------------------
The film is an original idea and it works well, it's a scary idea that you can't control your life or future at all!
Ashton Kutcher as Evan is believable and suitably freaked out! Kayleigh played by Amy Smart is the other main charactor and she handles her part well too but is more of a support to Kutcher than an equal in my opinion.

I sympathise with Evan as he is just trying to right every wrong he has had a part in as I think I would if I had his power! Everything he does just seems to backfire with terrible results.

I loved the story but did feel that at nearly 2 hours it drags on a bit though don't get me wrong a lot happens in that time, I just think parts could have been cut or edited better.

Overall I highly recommend this film, I haven't seen the sequel and am not sure if I'd want to as this seems to have an end so doesn't need to carry on.

Both films are available for £2.99 each on HMV.com if you're interested.

I really enjoyed this film, definitely gets you thinking although a couple of plot holes seemed to appear after a little thought.
