The Catherine Tate Show - Series 1 (DVD) ... DVD released 22 August, 2005 at 2 Entertain Video / Features of the DVD: PAL / A self-titled sketch show from the Perrier-nominated comedian. This hilarious series is a menagerie of instantly recognisable characters, from the Hollywood actress with an over-enthusiastic penchant for botox to the screaming housewife who hollers every time her toast jumps from the toaster. Characters from everyday life are parodied to the extreme as the talented actress morphs through ages, accents and wigs. The critics are hailing Tate as the most exciting female comic performer around.

... shows, more than any other type of comedy, require time and effort to 'get into', with the characters only reaching their comic peak when you truly know them. However, people just wouldn't stop talking about it, so I tuned in. The show is very funny, with a range of characters that are all enjoyable. Unlike many other sketch shows, I found myself laughing at everything, which is quite an achievement on Tate's part. I would have to say my favourite character is the disgusting yet overtly sexual Irish nurse who j...more

Premium Review The Catherine Tate Show - Series 1 (DVD): Catherine Tate - not funny (155 words)
by - written on 01/02/08 (Somewhat useful, 85 readings)

This show was first recommended to me by a female friend who said she though it was absolutely hilarious. After sitting down and watching the show on television I must say that I wasn't amused at all and didn't laugh once all the way through the show. She lent me this DVD and promised that it would change my opinion, so I decided to give it a bash. No. Nothing. In all honesty, I cannot see what is funny about any of the scenes or sketched which just seem to have no particular point and no particular punchline or even construction of a joke. Catherine Tate plays her way through many different totally pointless characters which have nothing ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Am I bovvered about this DVD?! (1461 words)

I'm a huge fan of sketch shows, ranging from The Two Ronnie's to Little Britain. Somehow, The Catherine Tate show has gone seemingly unnoticed, and criticised by some. Maybe this is due to the success of Little Britain, and other strong comedy series around. I managed to bypass the first series of the Catherine Tate Show until I saw an 'Am I bovered sketch' during Comic Relief last year. After watching the second series, I became instantly hooked! I have not laughed so much since I saw the 'fork handles' sketch as a young girl. Catherine Tate began her career studying acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama. After graduating, she spent a year with ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review The Catherine Tate Show - Series 1 (DVD): The Tate Gallery (1709 words)

A month ago, I’d heard of but never actually seen anything of The Catherine Tate Show. It’s one of those programmes often discussed at work, in the press or on other television shows but I never actually seemed to notice a time when it was actually on TV. That didn’t stop me being intrigued (in fact, it probably made me far more so.) When I mentioned that it might be rather nice if Santa Claus dropped me a copy down the chimney you can imagine my delight when that’s exactly what the fat old fart did. The Catherine Tate show is a self-titled sketch show, written by and starring comedienne Catherine Tate. She wasn’t that familiar to me until she landed a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Have a laugh when you 'A'int Bothered'. (1761 words)

In my opinion, Catherine Tate is one of the funniest women on our screens today. Not only is she diverse enough to play many different characters, all of which extremely funny, she also writes her own material. So who is she? Catherine Tate graduated from the Central School of Speech and Drama, and the Royal National Theatre. She then spent a year with the Royal Shakespeare Company before being noticed as a stand-up comic. She appeared in the sketch show 'Barking' on channel 4, and then later appearing with Peter Kay and Harry Hill in their own shows. The big turn around for Catherine was when she became a part of Lee Mack's ...  Read the complete review

It's a sign of the credit crunch price cuts that you can get this brilliant DVD for less than a fiver! Only a couple of years ago this was the show to watch, and now it's bargain basement prices (which is great for us!) Catherine Tate and friends star in this sketch show with a vast range of characters ranging from relatable to bizarre. The show has run three series on the BBC and won a whole host of awards. IS IT ANY GOOD: For myself, I took a long time to be persuaded to watch this show; my thinking was that Little Britain was a funny enough sketch show, and I had no need for any more. I also knew that sketch shows, more than any other ...  Read the complete review
