Advantages: Easy to watch - short funny sketches

Disadvantages: some characters not as funny as others

The Catherine Tate Show - series 1 is very good. If you have never seen it before it may take you to watch a couple of episodes in a row to get a good feel for it but I can assure you that after a while you will find it funny! Catherine Tate plays all of the main characters in each sketch supported by Matthew Horne and some other actors that appear regularly in some of the sketches.

Some of the sketches, I have to admit in this first series are funnier than others and some of her characters are stronger than others. Some of the best ones are:

Lauren, the typically annoying teenage schoolgirl who is famous for her "am i bovvered" catchphrase. This is one of the strongest characters which appears in every episode and has been continued with in her second and third series.

Nan, who is visited by her grandson (matthew horne) and she is always complaining and coming out with very inappropriate comments. This is another of the stronger and funnier characters.

Bernie, the Irish nurse. In my opinion this character is the funniest. She is very crude and only interested in men rather than doing her job properly.

Other characters in this series include Paul and Sam - the over excited couple, Margaret who screams and is terrified of everything and Elaine Figgis - the eternal romantic engaged to a prisoner on death row.

There are some other characters and sketches which aren't quite as funny but if you go on to watch the second and third series some of these characters are no longer continued with and some new characters are introduced which are even better.

In my opinion this first series is very good. The second series is even better and the third series is good but I feel that by this stage some of the ideas and jokes have already been taken as far as they could be.

A word of warning also if you haven't seen any of the show before - there is quite a lot of foul language and innuendos throughout which may not appeal to some people or unsuitable for watching with younger viewers.

All in all a pretty funny TV series.

Summary: On the whole a funny series. Some sketches better and funnier than others
