******************************************** My Reasons For Purchasing The Commitments Film: ******************************************** This has to be one of the best Comedy-Dramas of 1991 in my opinion. The Commitments is a really great film and it is based on the novel written by Roddy Doyle. It was released on August the 14th 1991 in Ireland and in the UK. The Commitments runs for 118 minutes. It was directed by Alan Parker who also directed "Fame" and Pink Floyds "The Wall" This film was also produced by Lynda Myles and Roger Randall-Cutler. The Commitments film was very successful in the box office and introduced a new generation ... Read the complete review

Set in Dublin, 'The Commitments' is about a group of Irish musicians. With a tagline of: 'They had absolutely nothing, but were prepared to risk it all' we're presented with a triumph of cinematic genius. Jimmy Rabbitte dreams of being a successful music manager, and being interviewed on The Terry Wogan show. So, in order to achieve his goal he must first have a band to manage. He is determined to bring Soul to Dublin, and sets out to find the musicians capable of doing it. After placing an ad in the local paper, he starts to audition many young hopefuls for his group. A collection of wannabees roll up at his front door, whereupon he takes them ... Read the complete review

Being from Dublin myself I can relate to the story and language in the commitments, but I think this film can appeal to all ages and nationalitys in some way or another. From the first drum to the end credits, The Commitments takes the viewer on an exciting ride of enormous highs and ego-shattering lows. Taken from Roddy Doyle's novel of the same name, Alan Parker's movie delivers the freshest sounds put out by the freshest of faces. There are no 'stars' in this movie, except for Colm Meaney's comic turn as Mr. Rabbite, but several of the cast members have gone on to bigger and better film roles, such as Angeline Ball, or musical gigs, such as Andrea ... "The Lord sent me - the Lord loves my trumpet." Sweet soul music, the sort of pure good time music, you get here, when it is played with feeling and passion and true ever loving spirit, can be among the most joyous of all sounds. There have been far too many manufactured besuited and bewigged cretins paraded around in the name of soul, however, for the genre to have any real credibility any more in real life, but when you see a film like The Commitments and hear a sound like The Commitments and cop a feel for the atmosphere of The Commitments, you know that it is in fact the true music of God. This story of the birth, growth and eventual ... Read the complete review

The Commitments is an hilarious account of the short lived life of a Dublin soul band made up of a bunch of friends and assorted others from one of the cities sink estates, the music is excellent and resulted in a very successful soundtrack and a singing career for one of the cast members. The main character in the film is one Jimmy Rabbitte played by Robert Arkins who has no musical ability but sees himselkf as a svengali manager, there is an hilarious bit of the film with him sat in the bath interviewing himself on the Wogan show when he talks about his dreams and how the band became successful, the other funny scene is the open auditions that he holds when ...
