This American TV Series is a dramatisation of the book of the same name. Having read the book, I found the TV series very shallow and not at all as interesting as the text, but having said that it's not bad in its own right. It follows a group of people addicted to drugs. It looks at their addiction, what they do to fund their drug use, how it affects their families etc. As you may imagine, there's a lot of swearing in it, so it's not appropriate for young viewers. The whole thing has a very 'made for TV' feel to it, and some of the actors are very weak. However, there are also some well known actors in there, and it's good to see them involved. The main ... Having burnt through all five seasons of the Wire within 6 weeks, I was eager to pick up The Corner, having heard it was of the same quality and by some of the same people. For once, I was not misled by the hype. While the Wire is a look at the whole of society, The Corner is simply focused on the drug addled souls of Baltimore, looking at their daily struggle and the somewhat hopelessness of their existence. It is touching and emotional as we follow the footsteps of a married pair of dope fiends, now broken up, and their young son who is trying to find his way in the world. After spending the best part of 2 months working my way through the masterpiece of television that is 'The Wire' I was left with a massive hole in my television viewing schedule. After the intensity and the quality of the story telling I'd recently become accustom to I knew I couldn't follow it up with just any show, it would have to be something clever, something hard hitting, and more importantly something good.
