The Crow (Special Edition, DVD) ... / DVD released 27 January, 2003 at Entertainment in Video / Features of the DVD: Box set, Collector's Edition, Full Screen, PAL, Widescreen / The Crow set the standard for dark and violent comic-book movies (like Spawn or director Alex Proyas's superior follow-up, Dark City), but it will forever be remembered as the film during which star Brandon Lee (son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee) was accidentally killed on the set by a loaded gun. The filmmakers were able to digitally sample what they'd captured of Lee's performance and piece together enough footage to make the film releasable. Indeed, it is probably more fascinating for that post-production story than for the tale on the screen. The Crow is appropriately cloaked in ominous expressionistic shadows, oozing urban dread and occult menace from every dank, concrete crack, but it really adds up to a simple and perfunctory tale of ritual revenge. Guided by a portentous crow (standing in for Poe's raven), Lee plays a deceased rock musician who returns from the grave to systematically torture and kill the outlandishly violent gang of hoodlums who murdered him and his fiancée the year before. The film is worth watching for its compelling visuals and genuinely nightmarish, otherworldly ambience. --Jim Emerson

This movie was never going to win any awards for acting but it is easy to relate to them and this makes up for any lack of oscar winning roles! Some of the writing and delivery of powerful lines also add to this. Brandon le tragically died during the filming of this movie and that is possibly the reason for its cult status. It all adds to the legacy of the crow. I would not personally buy the subsequent sequals released after th...more

Its a year since Shelly Webster and Eric Draven were raped and murdered on Devils night (the night before Halloween) but this year devils night will have a whole new meaning to the arsonists and murderers that killed Eric and Shelley. Eric has been brought back to life and given immortality by the crow, who guides your souls to the afterlife. This second chance he is given, he decides to set things right and kill those who hurt Shelley and him. At first they don't realize who he is but after some time they do and they realize the trouble they are in when they can't kill him, or can they? This is a Gothic superhero tale of love and revenge that gets deep into the ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review It Can't Rain All The Time (Movie only) (1363 words)

In superhero land, there’s nothing we like more than an anti-hero it seems. Dark, moody characters have littered our cinema screens over the years. Keanu Reeves’ "Constantine" and Ben Affleck’s’ "Daredevil" are just two recent examples of dark figures operating in a gloomy future consisting of shades of darkness and brooding violence. Perhaps the thematic template for the more apocalyptic side of superherodom came in the shape of the 1994 movie “The Crow”. Starring the ill-fated Brandon Lee, the film was a stylized exercise in gothic romance, violence and retribution. On Devil’s Night - October 30th - a city is ablaze with fires and random ...  Read the complete review

Brandon Lee is most know for his film "The Crow" which was made in 1994. This was his very last film as he was tragically killed on set with a gun that everybody thought had blanks in them. It turns out that one was a live round. The film starts on Devils night October 30th and is about a rock guitarist Eric Draven (Brandon lee) and his new bride to be Shelly who are beaten and killed by a gang of thugs intent on causing chaos and murder on Devils night. Eric is killed by being shot and then thrown out of his top window. The film actually starts by the police arriving on the scene after this has happened and during taking Shelly away in the ...  Read the complete review

I didn't see The Crow until it was 10 years old by which time I already knew that it's lead star Brandon Lee was dead after being involved in an accident whilst filming. It was recommended by a friend and it quickly became my favourite film of all time. PLOT - Based on the comic by James O' Barr - On Devil's Night (the night before Halloween) and Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) and Shelley Webster (Sofia Shinas) are all ready for their Halloween wedding when an inner city gang acting on orders given by their main man Top Dollar (Michael Wincott) break into their flat, rape and murder Shelley and murder Eric. Exactly a year on Eric is brought back from ...  Read the complete review

My review from ciao - The cult following of this film is huge. It is one of those films however that you may have heard about but never really had chance to watch. If thats the case you should definately buy a copy today. For under £5 you are getting a great movie. The story is based on a comic of the same title but it has been adapted into a very gothic style movie with action, love and a dash of the supernatural. Brandon lee gives a good performance as the anti hero in search of vengence for the lives of his girlfriend and himself. This movie was never going to win any awards for acting but it is easy to relate to them and this makes up for any lack of oscar ...  Read the complete review
