Starring - Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett Genre - Oscar chasing romantic biopic Awards - 3 technical Oscars Running time 166 minutes ----------------------------------------------- Benjamin Button: "Your life is defined by its opportunities... even the ones you miss". ----------------------------------------------- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is the worse case scenario for the professional film critic, which isn't me, of course. Its not that it's particularly bad or anything but what it represents. It's strategically released around the awards season in February so the movie press can go along to the freebie ... Rumoured to be one fo the most powerfully emotionally dramas of the past few years, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is one of those films I've been 'curious' watch for the past few months. As part of my Lovefilm order, I watched it yesterday, and was riveted from start to finish. That having been said, I didn't find it astoundingly amazing, by any means. It is incredibly well shot, acted and presented, but there was nothing in the story that really astounded me. Sure, it's worth listening to the advice about watching with a box of tissues, as it does have its moments, but there's nothing to shock, and not much twisting and turning. It's ... Benjamin Button was born under extremely unusual circumstances; he was born into the body of an old man with aching joints and wrinkled skin and blindness, an ailment which led to his parents leaving him on the doorstep of a local borstal. After a wild night out a young woman finds the crying baby and decides to offer him a place to stay with her as well as her love, despite being told by doctors that he will surely die within weeks. However, the baby grows stronger everyday and appears to be getting younger.... he is ageing backwards - leading him to experience war, parenthood and love. But his life can never be the same as others and it takes on its own very unique ... Read the complete review

Somewhere in the midst of this film, our protagonists, Benjamin and Daisy are just like any other couple. Daisy (Cate Blanchett) is a dance teacher, Benjamin (Brad Pitt) the inheritor of a button empire fortune; the pair have just bought their own house and spend hours watching TV and generally enjoying each other's company. This, though, is just a snapshot of a moment - and it tells very little of their true story. The pair first met when Benjamin was in his late seventies and Daisy was eight. Born into the body of an old man, Benjamin is growing younger by the day, meaning the pair's ages have been slowly converging until these few years in the sixties when their ... The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is loosely based on a story written in 1921 by F Scott Fitzgerald, the author of The Great Gatsby. In a hospital room in New Orleans an elderly woman Daisy (Cate Blanchett) is on her deathbed, with her daughter Caroline (Julia Ormond) at her side. As hurricane Katrina approaches, she gives her daughter a diary which narrates the story of how she came to know Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt). With excerpts from the diary and added bits filled in by Daisy, the whole story of Benjamin's life is pieced together from the moment of his birth at the end of the World War 1 in 1918. Benjamin is born as a tiny wizened old man. His ... Read the complete review
