Advantages: Gentle storyline, lovely filming
Disadvantages: Dragged a little for me.
I really like Cate Blanchett as an actress so, although I've never been all that struck on Brad Pitt, I thought this would be worth a look. The concept is based around a guy who is born old and becomes younger exploring all the issues that arise from that.
Of course, whether you like a film is such a subjective thing but whilst I found the concept interesting, I did find that the film dragged a bit for some reason. I knew of course that it wasn't going to be a bombs and explosions action flick but still, it just seemed to meander along gently. It wasn't unpleasant but I did find myself wishing it would rev up a gear.
The acting is good and I couldn't complain about the script, at points the cinematography is clever and atmospheric. I haven't read the book so I don't know if there were areas that I would have found more interesting had they been in the film or whether film covered everything. I did find the ending a little unbelievable but its difficult to say why without spoiling it for someone who hasn't seen it and there were some plot holes at this point in terms of how Benjamin made his exit.
I don't regret watching it, and it certainly gave me something to think about but I would say that its one of those films that you put on when there really isn't anything else to do.
Summary: If there's nothing else on, its worth watching.

- 23/08/09 I think this is the kinda film that you have to watch, it's long but it's an amazing piece of cinematography and I think the effects used in the film, will begin to change film as we know it. Brill review. Kirsty x |
