Advantages: Gripping, with stunning effects

Disadvantages: Slightly too long

Benjamin Button is a strange tale. From what I gather, in the United States it is quite a well known tale, but i the UK, not so much.

The film gathered significant critical acclaim on it's release, picking up 13 oscar nominations and winning three.

Basically, the story is about a boy called Benjamin, played by Brad Pitt, who is born as an old man. As the tale progresses, Benjamin grows younger and younger, experiencing his life in the same order as us, but with a body that is growing more fit, instead of decaying. There is an ongoing love story that propels the story forward (backward?!) of Benjamin's affair with Cate Blanchet's character, who ages normally.

Playing like a modern day Forrest Gump, the film is a very endearing look at prejudice and it's opposition throung the years in American society. The special effects are second to none (i still can't work out how they made Brad Pitt so small!), and the acting is more than worthy of the intelligently written script.

Brad Pitt gives one of the best performances I have ever seen him make, in a magical film that also brings to mind other fantastical movies such as Big Fish.

All in all, this is a well written movie, well acted and presented, but at the end of the day, it suffers by being a little over long.

Summary: A modern day Forrest Gump
