Advantages: Overall enjoyable
Disadvantages: long and slightly boring at times
We got this because my sister wanted to watch it, and also because of the hype surrounding the film. I heard that it wasn't that good from friends and that it is so long and boring... and had to make up my mind myself.
~~~DVD COVER~~~
The DVD cover is simple showing half a face of Brad Pitt and half of Cate Blanchett. It does not give away much of the plot. This simple design works although it isn't immediately attractive, and once you have seen the film this cover will perhaps mean more.
~~~THOUGHTS ON PLOT~~~
I thought the plot was quite interesting, the whole idea that a baby is born old and as he grows "older", he physically youths. This is the story of Benjamin Button.
With plots like these, you always think that the ending will be bad, and I genuinely thought this film concluded it amazingly well. The one question that it fails to answer is how and why Benjamin was born this way, but that's peripheral.
Whilst it does take its time and the story maxes out at 2 hours and 40 minutes, every minute was not wasted and put to good use, revealing small details, telling another intriguing snippet of his life.
I did feel that the pace was a little slow in some areas, and I was slightly bored, but then it picks up and intrigues you once more.
~~~CAST~~~
The film stars:
Brad Pitt (Benjamin Button)- he does an ok job. I wasn't superbly amazed or wowing at the screen about his talent. He pulls it off well. I've never been a fan of Brad Pitt...
Cate Blanchett (Daisy) - She does a really good job and was convincing and emotionally believable.
Tilda Swinton (Elizabeth Abbott)- Forgot she was in this film, she has a nice role, although doesn't shine.
~~~EXTRA FEATURES~~~
The DVD contains director's commentary, which isn't very interesting. Slightly more informative about the film as a whole.
~~~PRICE~~~
This can be purchased for under £10 at most supermarkets, perhaps £7 online.
~~~OVERALL~~~
It was an enjoyable watch, although it took its time to reach the climax.
I guess the message or question that evolves from this whole film is about "time"; how what we do affects what could happen, perhaps if we were one second slower, or one faster in doing something, something else will or will not happen?
Whatever it is, it provided a 2 hours 40 minutes worth of comprehensive story telling.
Summary: 4*
