Horrific Hammer Horror (The Curse Of Frankenstein (DVD))
Name: sharktrager
Advantages: Peter Cushing & Christopher Lee Disadvantages: none
Made in 1957, this was the first of Hammer's cycle of Frankenstein movies. Universal Studios, which had made the black and white sequence of Frankenstein movies in the 1930s would not allow Hammer to use the make-up effects which they had created and which the general public associated with the character (the block head and the 'bolts' in the neck) and threatened to sue if Hammer did use it, so they had to come up with a new look for the monster, and indeed they did. In this movie the monster is played by Christopher Lee, although Bernard Bresslaw was apparently in the running for the part in the early days. Summary: |
