 ... version. Dark Is Rising has a lot of promise but doesn't quite live up to what you think you see building. The idea is good but it is far too kid orientated, yes it is an out and out kids movie but these can be made is such a way as to entertain adults as well. Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles managed that reasonably well around the same time this came out. Though written almost 30 years before the adventures of a young Mr H. Potter appeared Dark Is Rising is going to be compared to its illustrious successor. The similarities between the two are far too obvious to ignore. A young boy, who also has a fractious relationship with a relative, though in this case with a brother instead of cousin/aunt/uncle), learns he holds secret abilities and has a powerful destiny.
