Many moons ago I was in the scouts - a wonderful organisation that introduced me to girls, drinking and the joys(?) of caveing. Oh, and scouting but this was just a minor distraction. Anyway, one summer we all went into this cave in the Lake District and I have never been so scared in my life as the time when I thought I was never going to get out of that damn hole in the ground. So it was with some trepidation that I sat and watched the 2-disc DVD of this British horror film. Set in a cave for Gods sake! 'The Descent' tells the story of six women and their 'adrenalin junkie' lifestyle as they embark on an expedition into the (almost) total darkness of an ... Read the complete review

Film Only Review I watched this film a while ago and it was kind of like pathetic fallacy, because there was a real thunderstorm outside, which emphasised on the tone of the film. It wasn't a bad film but I didn't really enjoy it that much. It started to get too repetitive and predictable as to what would happen. It was quite scary in a way but the actual film didn't scare me at all. The only bit that did scare me was towards the beginning of the film. A woman was looking out of a window into a forest and it was absolutely silent. Suddenly, this pole appears and smashes through the window at lightening speed with a very loud noise. It looked as if ... Read the complete review

I brought this film last year, and thought it would be a not so good film, but would fill a space on my shelf. I was shocked when I watched it, especially at the beginning when they are canooing and they go off in the car, better ssssh dont want to ruin it hehe, the girls decide to go caving, as they like doing extreme things, little do they know what they are going to descover once down there, it's the sort off film you just have to keep watching, like a good book you cant put down, the only thing that confused me about the film was the ending, other than that it's a brilliant film and highly ... 'The Descent' is a very fine British horror film directed by Neil Marshall. The story centres around 6 women who go 'caving' or is it 'spelunking'?, doesn't matter...they go into a massive cave anyway. The film starts with main character Sarah's husband and daughter being killed in a car crash which she survives relatively unharmed. She happens to be friends with an American woman called Juno who loves extreme sports and likes to jump out of planes/off waterfalls etc. After the crash, the film fast forwards one year and Sarah is with her friend Beth driving in the Appalachian mountains. Here they meet Juno and three other female friends for an adventure ... Read the complete review

I feel compelled to write a review of this film as it is the most genuinely frightening film I've seen in years. I love scary movies, yet I am also a complete wimp and will stay awake with the lights on for the rest of the night if a film gets under my skin. The Descent was the first film to do that to me for a very long time. So what makes The Descent a modern horror classic? Is it the quality of the unknown actors or the sparkling script? Of course not, it's a horror film, silly. Yes I know there are films that deliver art with shock - The Shining, Don't Look Now, etc. But if a film does what it says on the box and scares the pants off me, I don't mind if ...
