The Devil Wears Prada (DVD)
Advantages: Good story, lovely clothes, great scenes of NYC
The Devil wears Prada DVD/film was actually based on the 2003 book of the same name by Lauren Weisberger. It is said that the inspiration behind the book and the rather intimidating magazine editor (played by Meryl Streep) was that of American Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Due to this fact many famous designers and people in the industry shied away from having their products in the movie and there was a rumour that if anyone were to make cameo appearances in the film their clothes would never grace the pages of Vogue again, but apparently Anna Wintour later went on to say that she actually enjoyed the film and the part played by Meryl Streep.
The film stars Anna Hathaway in a familiar role for her. She often plays a rather girly girly part such as in her previous films like the Princess Diaries. She plays a somewhat dowdy (although she still looks beautiful in the beginning of the film in my opinion) assistant (Andy Sachs), who is hired to work for Miranda Priestly's (Meryl Streep) at the fashion magazine. In the beginning she has no idea about fashion or a sense of style and is helped along by two comrades at the magazine, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt (the great but relatively unknown British actress). Adrian Grenier plays her gorgeous and very accommodating boyfriend.
Meryl Streep got an academy award nomination for his role in the film.
There are some great clothes shown in this movie and at times really makes you wish you worked in fashion but then also shows the cut throat side of things. I never like to spoil a film when I review it so I don't really mention much more of the story, plot etc just to say that it is a very funny film also, a bit of a chick flick but one I do think the boys will appreciate too.
There are lots of cameo's by some quite famous people as well such as the Supermodel Gisele Bundchen, Heidi Klum and the designer Valentino.
I ahve read the book as well and loved that so definitely wanted to see this DVD. It does differ fromt eh book but I am not going to tell you how but I think you will be pleased with how they have done the screenplay.
The DVD has some great extra features. These are:
13 deleted scenes
Gag reel - this is extremely funny
A running commentary from the films costume designer
The film is rated a 12 as it contains mild language and runs for approximately 104 minutes.
A definite must see
Summary: A great chick flick with cool people, cool clothes and a fun story!
