Soon these visions start to take a decidedly bad turn for her and her sanity is bought into question. What I liked about this film was the fact that it had some nice plot twists to it and the story moved along at a good pace. It is not he greatest script ever seen, not by a long measure, but overall it works to deliver a nice t...more

Crowned Review The Eye (Blu-ray): Is Jessica Alba seeing things? (1388 words)
by - written on 28/10/09 (Very useful, 135 readings)
Rating:

---Intro--- Having not been impressed in the slightest with "Eden Lake" I was not desperately optimistic about the second of the Blu-ray DVDs that hubby had picked up in Blockbuster's 3 for £25 Pre-owned Blu-ray DVD offer - "The Eye". It turns out that we also have a normal (unwatched) copy of the DVD on our shelf as well for some unknown reason. I must remember to give that to someone for Christmas! I had read some not too promising reviews of the film, saying that it was a poor remake of a Chinese film (well actually I'm sure I'd read it was a remake of a Japanese film, but it's not, it's definitely a remake of a Hong Kong made ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Eye - Of The Storm? (516 words)

I notice this has some fairly bad reviews both here and across the web. I have to state that I believe this to be quite unfair. The Eye is already at a disadvantage as it is a remake of the Asian classic Jian Gui and traditionally, remakes of Asian theatre tend to be poor. Plot: A fairly simple ghost story is the element of the main plot with virtuoso violinist Sydney Wells played by Jessica Alba as the blind lead. A childhood accident left Sidney blind and now many years later a corneal transplant offers her the chance to see the world again. Grasping at the opportunity she awakens from surgery hopeful of a new life with partially restored sight. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Eye (Blu-ray): The Eyes of Sydney Mars (899 words)

When remaking an Eastern horror film there are various ways you can go about it, but they essentially fall into two camps; those that recreate the Eastern film in a Western style, and those that take the name and not much else. People criticise those that don't stick closely to the source material, but this is harsh as when East meets West it does not always work. For every 'Infernal Affairs' into 'The Departed' there is a 'Bangkok Dangerous' remake. Having already seen The Pang Brothers fail horribly to remake their own 'Bangkok Dangerous' I was interested to see in someone else could do a better job with their 'The Eye', one of my favourite horror films from the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review I C U (383 words)
by - written on 07/11/09 (Very useful, 25 readings)
Rating:

This version of The Eye is a remake of an original horror film. As horror films go it is not a bad effort and a reasonably enjoyable film to watch. Jessica Alba stars as Sydey Wells wo has been blind since she was a small child, her older sister Helen who is played by Parer Posey actually blames herself for causing the accident that cost her sister her sight. The operation gives her back what is initially quite blurred vision and also brings her into contact with Paul, a doctor who is played by Alesandro Nivola, and who has an attraction to her. However as hersight develops she starts to see strange visions, shodows of people in rooms and other ...  Read the complete review

After almost two decades of seeing nothing, Sydney tries to readjust to world of visuals once again. Initially, her recovery is miraculous and doctors are delighted at her progress. That is until Sydney begins to see things that aren't there. Doctors question her state of mind as she begs them to stop her from being haunted by these terrifying visions.
