Advantages: Good plot
Disadvantages: Poor lead performance
This version of The Eye is a remake of an original horror film. As horror films go it is not a bad effort and a reasonably enjoyable film to watch.
Jessica Alba stars as Sydey Wells wo has been blind since she was a small child, her older sister Helen who is played by Parer Posey actually blames herself for causing the accident that cost her sister her sight.
The operation gives her back what is initially quite blurred vision and also brings her into contact with Paul, a doctor who is played by Alesandro Nivola, and who has an attraction to her. However as hersight develops she starts to see strange visions, shodows of people in rooms and other things and at the same time she is struggling to adapt to life as a sighted person. Soon these visions start to take a decidedly bad turn for her and her sanity is bought into question.
What I liked about this film was the fact that it had some nice plot twists to it and the story moved along at a good pace. It is not he greatest script ever seen, not by a long measure, but overall it works to deliver a nice tense and occasionally spooky horror film.
Jessica Alba is slightly weak in the lead role which is the main criticism that I have of the film and I feel that it could have been so much better with a stronger leadng lady in it, she struggles a bit to get across the frustration of her new situation and also the factthat part of her mabe prefers to stay as she is ratherthan regaining her sight as her other senses are quite well developed. Overall there was a lack of passion in her performance.
The Blu Ray version gives a wonderfully clear and sharp image that looked good on our TV, whether it was worth the extraI'm not convinced but the other half likes things to be cutting edge on the techie side of things.
Is the film worth seeing? I would have to say that on blance it is as the story is pretty good and the film does do a good job of building upthe tension.
