In series one of the hit sitcom, Reginald (Reggie) Perrin has a mid-life crisis and, sick of his job and family life, fakes his own suicide. Assuming a number of disguises, he eventually ends up back with his wife, under the guise of Martin Wellbourne, an old friend of Reggie's, and takes up his old job. His wife, Elizabeth, is well aware that Martin is really Reggie, but decides to keep quiet while Reggie works out what it is he wants.
