note: also appears on Flixster and The Student Room Fans of Terry Gilliam will lap up The Fisher King, in as much as it adheres to every single convention of the director you'll have ever seen - it is extremely quirky, visually dazzling, and well performed by all involved. The film revolves around an almost virulently cynical and nihilistic DJ named Jack Lucas (Jeff Bridges), whose cruel remarks to one caller cause the caller to go on a murderous rampage. By coincidence, he one day is saved from a group of gangsters by Parry (Robin Williams), a mentally ill, homeless man who believes it is his life task to search for the Holy Grail. However, the twist comes ... Read the complete review

Jack Lucas (Jeff Bridges) has it all, as top shock jock of New York, he has wealth, power and is about to begin a lucrative TV career. One day through an on-air quip that is taken too seriously by one listener, he loses it all. This film is quite simply Brilliant. It is very close to being my favourite film of all time. The main themes of the film are: 1. "What the hell is life really about?", 2. That mental illness could take hold of anybody at any given time. 3. What is mental illness? Who is really mentally ill? Is it the person who is mentally ill or is it the rest of us who just aren't capable of thinking on such a deep level? 4. That love and friendship are maybe all that really matter in life. 5. The search for some kind of "Holy Grail" in life. At least this is my perception of what this film is really ... Read the complete review

This is my all time favourite film, I never tire of watching it. It has three main parts. The first is whare Jack Lucas DJ (Jeff Bridges) is a very successful man who can afford to be very rude to his listeners, unfortunately he was very rude to a disturbed man who took his advice literally and opened fire in a restaurant full of well heeled yuppie type people thus killing many. Jack feeling remorse for his actions takes to the bottle and can no longer get on with his life.Until he meets Parry (Robin Williams), a tramp, disturbed and unable to remember the past since a maniac came into the restaurant and blew the back of his wifes head off in front on him. ... Jeff Bridges stars in The Fisher King as a Howard Stern-like radio presenter who pretends to give advice to his listeners when really all he does is dismiss them rudely, with the catchphrase; "Well, forgive ME!", thinking he is being funny and adorable. Meanwhile, he is dating a woman who thinks the world of him, yet he seems to barely like her, let alone want to commit to her. All in all, we are introduced to a very arrogant, selfish, seemingly heartless, unlikeable man. One day gets a call on his show from a man who talks about feeling very depressed and wanting to end his life. Of course, Bridges' character dismissively tells ... Read the complete review
