Prior to this film, Unidentified Flying Objects were more commonly known as ‘flying discs’, but in this movie the term ‘flying saucer’ was coined, and so the phrase came into common usage. Although we are today familiar with the belief that such objects may contain aliens from other planets, the makers of this film made no pretense that this was their belief – instead the ‘flying saucer’ concerned was manufactured by scientist Dr. Carl Lawton, played by Roy Engel, in Alaska.
