Release in early 1980 this movie was based on the novel of the same name written by the well known horror writer James Herbert. It is rightfully given an 18 certificate due to it gory and bloody scenes involving some horrific deaths.

**BRIEF PLOT**

The residents of Antonio Bay, a small fishing town in Northern California, are preparing to celebrate it's centennial when many mysterious events begin to happen.
With many horrific murders occurring the town folk are understandably nervous as a strange glowing fog begins to envelope the town.
When the towns priest, Father Malone, (played by Hal Holbrook) unearthed his grandfather diary he soon realises what is hiding with-in the strange fog and why the fog is covering the town.
The diary reveals some horrific historical events which have doomed the residents of the town to a terrifying nightmare.

As the fog first appears out to sea the town folk ignore it, assuming it is simply the usual sea fog, until they discover the gruesome murders as the fog travels across land, leaving devastation in its path.

**IN CONCLUSION**

After reading the novel by James Herbert I was intrigued as to how the film would pan out, and to be honest, I was not that disappointed as the movie was quite impressive indeed.
Although the special effect regarding the spread of the fog and what lived with in the frightening fog descending on the town.

The idea of a fog containing grisly, demonic type entity is scary in itself so to put it onto the big screen was always going to be difficult, but if done right it would produce a great film, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.
This movie actually does it in its own way without going over the top with the special effects.

The horror is waiting in the thick grey mist and although you know it there it still may well surprise you when you least expect it too.

The acting is good enough to keep the movie going and the reason for the horrific events is almost believable as the truth about the fog unfolds.

Actually, this isn't based on the Herbert novel (which is much, much sillier).

Great review of a great film. Mind you it is always better reading the book as your mind can imagine far worse than films can show! LOL! Susan
