Obviously the Russians decide to exploite this and feel that an explosion at an American Air base will seriously boost CND and by association the Larbour Party so Michael Caine is called in to play his usual rebellious spy catcher role, a role very similar to the Harry Palmer roles, although now older and a little more paunchy. The story is a well paced will he succeed or will they stop him thriller with Brosnan playing a very cold and arrogant killer v...more

Premium Review The Fourth Protocol (DVD): Brosnan plays a Baddie Bond (266 words)
by - written on 10/08/09 (Useful, 5 readings)
Rating:

This is an early Pierce Brosnan film that I have watched many times. The basic story is that he is a Russian sleeper that is reactivated in order to carry out a nuclear attack against an American air base located in England. It is based around a supposed loop hole in the labour partys manifesto that allows the elected Labour Prime Minister to be replaced wihtout any recourse to the country with an extreme communits leader if the Labour Party is elected to power. Obviously the Russians decide to exploite this and feel that an explosion at an American Air base will seriously boost CND and by association the Larbour Party so Michael Caine is called in to play his usual ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Russian baddies again (271 words)
by - written on 31/03/09 (Very useful, 67 readings)
Rating:

Michael Caine stars in this film throw back to the cold war era when it was the Russians who were the bad guys, they probably still are these days with their control of gas and oil supplies but films rarely cover that in the current round of action films. Caine stars as British agent Michael Preston who is trying to hunt down a Russian agent plaed by Pierce Brosnan who is planning to detonate a nuclear device to make it appear like the explosion came from an American airbase in the UK. My other half came back from Blockbuster with this aweek ago and I was surprised as it is quite an old film however it was cheap rental and he is a big Caine fan. The film was ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Fourth Protocol (DVD): DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!! The Fourth Protocol (497 words)
by - written on 30/03/09 (Very useful, 76 readings)
Rating:

The Fourth Protocol still stands up today as a taut political thriller steeped in Cold War tension it handles thrills and action with aplomb. Frederick Forsythe always comes across as a bit of a prat whenever he turns up on Question Time, but as a novelist he's probably quite good. The Fourth Protocol is perceived as one of his best novels. I've seen the film many many times, and it still entertains to this day. The film version is a clever slab of Cold War nuclear tension. Its complicated plot follows Valeri Petrofsky (Pierce Brosnan) a top KGB spy who moves next door to an American airbase in the UK. Using a false identity he assumes the guise of James ...  Read the complete review
