The Fugitive (DVD) ... ... / DVD released 01 June, 2006 at Warner Home Video / Features of the DVD: Full Screen, PAL / Do you know anyone who hasn't seen this movie? A box-office smash when released in 1993, this spectacular update of the popular 1960s TV series stars Harrison Ford as a surgeon wrongly accused of the murder of his wife. He escapes from a prison transport bus (in one of the most spectacular stunt-action sequences ever filmed) and embarks on a frantic quest for the true killer's identity, while a tenacious U.S. marshal (Tommy Lee Jones, in an Oscar-winning role) remains hot on his trail. Director Andrew Davis hit the big time with this expert display of polished style and escalating suspense, but it's the antagonistic chemistry between Jones and Ford that keeps this thriller cooking to the very end. In roles that seem custom-fit to their screen personas, the two stars maintain a sharply human focus to the grand-scale manhunt, and the intelligent screenplay never resorts to convenient escapes or narrative shortcuts. Equally effective as a thriller and a character study, The Fugitive is a Hollywood blockbuster that truly deserves its ongoing popularity. --Jeff Shannon

... faultless viewing. For me, The Fugitive is one of those films that showcase his talents and steer him away from the one trick pony association that he has with the Indiana Jones franchise. Ford portrays Kimble brilliantly, right from the start we're behind him, the film begins with flashbacks to the night in question where Kimble's wife was brutally murdered and from the start we're as confused about what has happened as Kimble is himself, this is what gets the audience on his side; the audience are always on the sa...more

Crowned Review The Fugitive (DVD): A One Armed Man Killed Your Wife? Riiight! (1004 words)
by - written on 05/10/09 (Very useful, 93 readings)
Rating:

Vascular surgeon Dr Richard Kimble's life is seemingly perfect, he's got a brilliant career that knows no bounds and a beautiful, loving wife at home, however Richard's life is about to change dramatically. He comes home one night to find his wife dying on the floor of the bedroom, she has been shot and her attacker is still in the house. Richard tries to stop him but fails, he notices that the man only has one arm though, subsequent to this he tries to revive his wife but again to no avail. With no evidence of a break in and a 911 call in which Richard's wife apparently names him her attacker, Richard is charged with murder and is sentenced to death. While on ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review One of the best action films of the 90's (1666 words)

What would you do if you were accused of the murder of your loving wife which you did not commit and then you had the chance to do a jail break? Me being me would probably get caught in the first five minutes or probably wouldn't even go, even if I was innocent, but the fugitive does, and he does it well. The fugitive is an excellent little film, and I can't believe I hadn't seen it earlier. It's now 9 years old and I only got my first viewing of it last night when a mate lent me the DVD. If your in the same boat as I was and haven't seen this yet and like your action/thriller movies, this is one I would recommend you dig out of the bargain ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Fugitive (DVD): Ford, Jones and the One Armed Bandit (716 words)
by - written on 29/01/02 (Very useful, 42 readings)
Rating:

The Sixties were a rich ground for classic American television dramas, mainly of the melodramatic sort based on pretty odd premise - The Invaders, Land of the Giants, Star Trek, Mission Impossible and Time Machine all went for the sci fi slant, but there was another, more ordinary chase drama involving a one armed man who killed a guy's wife, with the husband being the one suspected of the murder - The Fugitive, so called because he was destined to remain on the run forever, hunted for a crime he did not commit, with his only hope being to track down his killer. Almost invariably this sort of camp drama was equally rich material upon which to base a big ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Terrific!! (180 words)
by - written on 06/07/00 (Very useful, 2 readings)
Rating:

A film with Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones as joint leads can hardly fail to be stunning. Two actors with phenomenal screen presence, and both particularly suited to doing the dogged determination thing. Apparently this was once a TV series, and may even be based on real-life, but if, like me, you are coming to this film cold, it's about a surgeon called Richard Kimble (Ford) who is found guilty of murdering his wife, despite being innocent. On the way to prison he escapes and goes on the run. Tommy Lee Jones is the government agent sent to bring him in, and it quickly becomes clear to Kimble that there is nowhere to hide, so he sets out to prove his ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Fugitive (DVD): A One-Armed-Man Did it And ran Away - Honest Guv  (888 words)

Rating:

~ ~ This action thriller come chase movie is the work of director Andrew Davis, who is the director responsible for many of the action movies of Chuck Norris and Steven Seagal. Some might argue that this isn’t the finest CV available, but whatever you might think of his previous work, nobody could ever accuse him of not having the knack of keeping the action moving along at a frenetic pace. ~ ~ The plot of the movie is very loosely based on the cult TV series from the 1960’s starring the now deceased actor David Jansen in the lead role. A well known, renowned and highly respected doctor, Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford) is prosecuted and ...  Read the complete review
