Oh how I loved this film when I was a kid! I remember me & my best mate renting it from the video shop (yes, on actual VIDEO!) so many times, then sitting in the dark watching it to scare ourselves! In reality having watched it again many years later it is far from scary, but I still love it for old times sake!

Basically this film is about a young lad called Glen (played by the cute-as-a-button Stephen Dorff!) and his young pals who accidentally release a load of demons from a hole (the gate) in their garden. It was made in 1986 and as such is brilliantly retro in terms of the way it was made but also the fabulous outfits and terrible special effects etc!

It follows a fairly usual script for this type of horror, full of laughs as well as scares and gore. When Glen's parents go away for the weekend and leave him at home with his teenage sister, Alexandra (who is mean to him like only a big sister could be!) she promptly throws a huge party and from there things start to go from bad to worse as things get wrecked at the party, the demons make their appearance and they try to work out how on earth they are going to close the gates of hell before their parents return!

The special effects, as I've said, are pretty bad, but personally I think in a good old 80s movie bad is good! The acting itself is ok and there are a few colourful characters which keep it interesting.

I would say it's one to watch probably only if you enjoy movies from this era, if you're expecting amazing things it may disappoint, but if you want a good old cheesy horror movie then this is your thing! :)
