Advantages: Great Story
Disadvantages: none
The Goonies is one of those films that just about everyone has seen. If you meet someone who has not seen it, you tend to view them with a kind of morbid suspicion, what is wrong with you? That kind of thing. The Goonies is a childrens film from the eighties, it has a massive cult following and is probably one of the most well known childrens films of all time.
The Goonies came out back in 1985. Like so many of these films, at the time it really wasn't that big of a hit. It was only in later years where this film turned into a true classic.
The film is about a group of young teenagers called the Goonies. They live in a small town that is being taken over by corprate giants looking to build a retail park. This means the end of the lives these kids have had, and the end of the Goonies. Then they find a treasure map hidden away in the attick. The film then follows the adventure that follows as the Goonies attempt to find the treasure of 'One Eyed Willie'.
There are some great characters in this film. Chunk is a true legend! Played by Jeff Cohen the little fat kid is just so funny. He really makes this film and I love watching him. There are also a few people you might recognize. A young Corey Fieldman who went on to do farious other films and then the lead is played by Sean Astin who we all know as Sam from Lord of the Rings. All the actors play there parts very well and really make the film come to life.
I really like some of the music in this film. Some classic feel good eighties music really fits in well with the story. Some Cindy Lauper is always a good thing in my opinion.
The film is full of action and adventure. There is a really good storyline, with some excellent badies and some real loveable characters. Sloth is another classic one, you often see T-shirts with 'Hey you guys' and other slogans on which really shows how well known the film is even 25 years on.
The film runs for 114 minutes. That is quite long for a kids film, but it really flies by as there is so much going on.
The film is rated PG, there is some mild language and some slightly adult humor. But nothing to serious and it really should not offend anyone.
The DVD itself has all the regular features you would expect, trailers and what not. Nothing to exciting, but it really should be all about the film anyway.
This has to be one of my all time favorite films. There is so much to love about it! The story is great, there are lots of funny moments, lots to keep you on the edge of the seat and some classic one liners! If you have never seen this film you really are missing out, go and watch it at once!!
Summary: A Briliant Family Favorite
