What can be said about "The Green Mile" that hasn't already been said? I was just totally engrossed in this movie from beginning to end. It is absolutely BRILLIANT - a must see. I am not going to tell you much about the movie as far as the story goes, (it's a Stephen King - one of his best, I think!, just that it was brilliantly acted, and was strong from beginning to end. And that you need to see it! Tom Hanks sure picks his movies to be quality. And the casting people made excellent choices for all the characters. You believed in them.
The story, set during the Depression, centers on this HUGE black man, John Coffey, arrested for the murder of two little white girls, whose bodies he is found crying over in remorse. Once incarcerated, we meet his jailers - a mix of good people and one with a definite problem, whose position is an ego trip and who enjoys his job a bit too much. His goal, to be the one in charge of an execution. Just once, to be the front man. He is a brutal character with a chip on his shoulder and uses his position to abuse the men for whom he has a responsibility. Tom Hanks is the chief jailer, Paul Edgecomb, and he and the gentle giant who is afraid of the dark, come to a respect and understanding of each other. He cures Tom Hanks character of an ongoing medical problem, and Hanks realises the man is innocent of the charges against him.
But this man has been sentenced to death ...

The story is very powerful and the actors brought it to the screen perfectly. Each performer portrayed their character with incredible justice, you hated the bad guy and felt for the good. You were there, in the middle of each situation, it was so real.
Again, a brilliant movie. Miss it, and you only deny yourself!
