Advantages: Moving, and it gave me a lot to think about
Disadvantages: Might be a bit too gruesome for some people
First of all let me say that this film is simply amazing. It isn`t possible to give much of a guide to the plot without blowing the whole story away, but I`ll give it a try. The film is 3 hours long, and starts with an old man in a retirement home talking over old times with another resident of the home. The film then goes back in time to 1935 and shows what happened to the man in question when he worked on death row. Suffice to say the story gets very involving and moving, although there is the occasional commedy moment hidden away in there. Don`t come to the film with any expectations - I know that what I expected to happen wasn`t always what did happen. The one thing to bear in mind is that there are occasional gruesome scenes - if you don`t like the thought of watching electrocutions then be prepared to close your eyes and turn the sound off for a few seconds a couple of times. It isn`t over the top - what there is does help move the story along, but I can certainly see why some people might not be too keen on it. I won`t say you have got to watch this film because it isn`t for everyone. If you want an action film then don`t waste your time or money. If you want a film that will move you and make you think about a number of different things then do yourself a favour and watch this film.
