The Ice Storm is a drama film released in 1997. Film was directed by Ang Lee. This film is an adoption of novel "The Ice Strom" written by Rick Moody but the screenplay was written by James Schamus. The story takes place in early 70's and this story is about two nonadaptive families of Suburban Connecticut. They are trying to handle political and social issues. This is the time of thanksgiving and suddenly Ice Strom hits. This film is nominated in many film festivals that also include BAFTA awards. Film was also nominated for best supporting actress in Golden Globe. Star Cast: Kevin Kline portrays Ben Hood. Joan Allen plays a role of Elena ... Read the complete review

And so I settled down on a Sunday evening and took a look at the TV guide. A nature programme and the news on 1, Boring. A John Thaw drama on ITV, even more cathartic. And so I had the choice of three films, Legionnaire starring Jean-Claude Van Damme (more highbrow stuff from 5), Alien Resurrection on 4 (a lame sequel) and The Ice Storm on 2. I'd heard good things about The Ice Storm, but it seemed a bit heavyweight for a Sunday night. Then I thought that I have a degree, I'm supposed to 'appreciate' such films. So I gave it a go. And I was so impressed. This is an astonishingly well-made and well-acted film. What surprised me more than anything ... Read the complete review

Based on a novel by a writer called Rick Moody, The Ice Storm is so full of excellent actors, that even reading the brief write up on it in a magazine had my mouth watering. It is set in the mid 1970's, so some of the clothes and hairstyles leave a lot to be desired. Directed by the now world renowned Ang Lee, this film takes a fresh look at the stereotypical dysfunctional family. The film focuses on the Hood family, and their friends and next door neighbours The Carvers. Kevin Kline stars as Ben Hood. He is instantly dislikeable, and is so engrossed in his work and playing golf that his wife and family come far down his pecking order of priorities. He ... Read the complete review

Unusual as it is, this little known film stars a crop of well known Hollywood names, such as Kevin Kline, Sigouney Weaver, Tobey Maguire, Katie Holmes, Christina Ricci and Eijah Wood to name but a few. How then this film bypassed the cinema and went straight to video is a mystery to me. Set in a small American town in the middle of an Ice Storm (hence the title) the story centres around two familes, the parents of which are having affairs with each other, leaving the children to put it politely confused..sexually. Christina Ricci's character in particular is so curious that she ends up experimenting with each of the other family's brothers. Apologies ... Read the complete review
