They say that there is a curse put on women who win an Oscar that they shall appear in flops there after and never reach their full potential. I am not sure of this myself. I think the rubbish nature of most actresses' post Oscar films have more to do with the actress being naff to begin with than any voodoo. Think back to some recent winners; Halle Berry, Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman. All their award winning roles had similar things in common - beautiful women made up to look ugly. The fact is that all three are pretty bland when left to themselves and this reflects in their combined back catalogue of some of the worst films ever. For me it is Kidman who ... The thing that drew me to this film was that it was on offer, 3 films for £10. Blinded by my need to get some films cheaply I didn't really bother to read the back of it properly to find out what it was about. But Nicole Kidman is in it! How bad could it be? Bad enough. The film is basically about aliens coming to Earth and infecting people. When a space shuttle crashes into Earth, everyone who comes into contact with it becomes infected after they've been to sleep. Being a massive fan of Nicole Kidman i became very excited when i heard she was trying her hand at something different in the movie world. A sci fi action alien thriller in fact! That is what best describes Oliver Hirschbiegel "The Invasion" So here are the details of this movie : A NASA space shuttle crashes down in America without any explanation and with it is carrying an Alien life transforming disease. This disease starts infecting everyone that gets near it and starts to spread rapidly from state to state. Nicole Kidman plays a top psychiatrist in Washington and discovers with her work partner Daniel Craig ... Read the complete review

I didn't realise that this was supposed to be a remake of "Invasion of the body snatchers" until after I read some reviews. More surprising was seeing Nicole Kidmand being cast in such a role, in a sci-fi come horror, movie. In this version, the alien lifeform comes to earth rather discretly in some spacecraft wreckage, and grabs its host in the form of a virus, and is spread to the unsuspecting masses by vomiting a secretion either directly onto the target, or into say a coffee. (I was trying to eat during this film, not a good idea). (If aliens ever do invade, I hope they do it rather more sensationally than this! ... Read the complete review
