... Nicole Kidman plays Carol, a Psychiatrist who works in Washington DC. Daniel Craig plays her Colleague Ben Driscoll and there's a hint of romance between these two characters. Carol has separated from her husband and they are having a battle over access to their child Olly. Ben and Nicole seem to be quite key in discovering the virus and working with their scientist friend to find out more about it. For me, it had some good-but-weirdness about it, the main mantra being once infected 'don't fall asleep' ... it also ...more

Premium Review The Invasion (DVD): Invading a home near you (649 words)
by - written on 10/03/08 (Very useful, 62 readings)
Rating:

When a space shuttle explodes just outside the earth's axis, it unleashes an alien life form that takes over human bodies. The infected become devoid of human emotion and see their new status as a peaceful alternative to the violence-ravaged modern day society. They spread the seed by spurting a revolting green liquid from their mouths onto the new victims, and as soon as they fall asleep it takes hold. Their are, as always, protestors. Carol Bennell, a psychiatrist who notices the change in some of her patients, discovers that a certain medication is the antedote to the infection, but right now her main focus has to be on rescuing her son from her ex-husbands evil ...  Read the complete review

(This review is reproduced from my site - ShaunMunro.co.uk, cheers) Director: Oliver Hirschbiegel Cast: Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, Roger Rees, Jeffrey Wright Release Date: August 17th, 2007 (US), October 12th, 2007 (UK) Certificate: PG-13 (US) From the moment that The Invasion begins, as Nicole Kidman's character sifts through a convenience store, popping pills and downing fizzy energy drinks, it is made to clear to us that this is, in every sense of the word, a modern-day reinvention of what is by now a classic story. If only this opening scene didn't abuse the Homeric "in media res" literary technique, showing us a scene ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Invasion (DVD): They're Coming...... Again (947 words)
by - written on 03/02/08 (Very useful, 89 readings)
Rating:

The first thing that came into my head as The Invasion began was "Plastic Surgery"; in the two years since actress Nicole Kidman had made a physical appearance on screen she had lost a good five years, and most annoyingly she had developed that rather annoying Victoria Beckham pout, perhaps the two things are connected. I know this is a hard line to take at the start of a review, but this age reversal process is striking to the extent of being the most overpowering thing about the movie. The Invasion is technically speaking the forth official Bodysnatcher movie, while Bodysnatchers: The Invasion Continues in 1993 was a dramatically different ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Don't Fall Asleep (1004 words)
by - written on 01/03/08 (Very useful, 82 readings)
Rating:

An American space shuttle re-enters the Earth's atmosphere and disintegrates, scattering debris over a 200-mile strip of American soil. The US environment agency immediately investigates the incident and finds a strange single-celled organism latched onto the debris, seemingly invulnerable to extremes of temperature. Psychiatrist Dr Carol Bennel attends her city centre office for a usual round of appointments. One of her patients complains that her husband is behaving strangely and that he is "not her husband" anymore. Taking her son out for Halloween trick or treat visits, her son's best friend seems distant and disinterested. When he is attacked by ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Invasion (DVD): "Don't fall asleep!" No promises, watching this...! (1020 words)

When faced with the prospect of yet more daytime TV recently, I decided to have a look through some DVDs that my partner had borrowed from one of our friends to see if there was anything that I fancied watching... I figured that anything was better than watching MORE Jeremy Kyle, right? Finally deciding on "The Invasion" I settled down on the sofa to enjoy an afternoon's pleasant viewing. ** PLOT ** Carol Bennell (Played by Nicole Kidman) is a successful therapist, who is a single mother with a young son, Oliver. When a space shuttle crashes to earth, she is as caught up as much as the next person with the ...  Read the complete review
