The tale of 4 mothers and their daughters, of their upbringing, their trials and triumphs, jealousies and friendships, it centres on June. As she tells us the stories, we see in flashback various reminiscences of her relationship with her mother. Premium Review The Joy Luck Club (DVD): A wonderful movie for women everywhere (406 words)

Are you ready for a night of female bonding? Then get the girls over, curl up on couches and cushions, and enjoy! This is a wonderful movie exploring relationships between mothers and daughters and a group of female friends. I would say that this is truly a womens movie and maybe one for mothers and grown daughters to watch together. I would think that a lot of males would find it too sensitive for their taste. It is very much a film for the empowerment of women. I think every teenage girl and her mother should settle down to watch this together, and then use the movie to open up to their own relationships with each other. I thought this was an excellent movie. The ...  Read the complete review

Are you ready for a night of female bonding? Then get the girls over, curl up on couches and cushions, and enjoy! This is a wonderful movie exploring relationships between mothers and daughters and a group of female friends. Through flashbacks we see china of thirty years ago, and its traditions and of the impact of these on Chinese Americans today. In English for the most part, but the scenes in China are spoken in Chinese and subtitled in English. I thought this was an excellent movie. The tale of 4 mothers and their daughters, of their upbringing, their ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tearjerker! (250 words)

I remember a penpal (ooh, how rare is a penpal these days! I'm surprised I even remember the word!) of mine wrote to me and told me that he and a group of friends had gone to watch this movie. He said that during the duration of the movie, all the guys cried for about 2 hours, the girls cried for 2 hours and 15 minutes! I guess that alone will give you an idea about the movie. The movie showcases the saga of a group of Chinese American women and is based on the bestselling novel by Amy Tan. It starts of with the stories of the elder women and their trial and tribulations in China. We are then introduced to the 'American' daughters and see how their ...  Read the complete review
