A heart-lifting love story that reaches across time.

The Lake House is a 2006 love story featuring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock as the main characters. It is called a heart-lifting love story that reaches across time. Unfortunately for me, this movie never really took off. I had high hopes for it as I was hoping that these two actors could recreate the magic and chemistry they had in the movie Speed but I just found this movie a bit slow and that it never reached its full potential.

The plot was a good one. Sandra plays Dr Kate Forster, a somewhat of a loner who has had a few relationships but is afraid to fully give herself to one person. Keanu plays architect Alex Wyler. They manage to connect romantically but unfortunately time stands in their way, to be more specific, two years as KAte is in 2006 and Alex is in 2004. Don't ask me how they have achieved this but they have and they find out about this fairly quickly. I found this a bit confusing at times because while I was watching this movie I was firstly trying to figure out how they were able to keep communicating and I also had to keep trying to remember who was in what year when they cut to each character.

The movie is described as magical but I somehow seemed to miss this portion, I would definitely not describe it as magical, more just a bit of a coincidence.
The movie was sort of centered about a LAke House that Alex's father built years ago before he became a famous architect. Alex's father is played by the amazing Christopher Plummer. They have a somewhat of a troubled relationship but Kate tries to bring them together in her own special way which is sweet. The Lake House is a big glass building and rather stunning and I have to say this was probably part of the magical portion of the movie as it seemed very peaceful and serene at night times on the Lake and the place that both Kate and Alex find each other so it does hold special memories for them.

I think I just found parts of the movie disjointed and not brought together fully. I won't spoil the ending but I have to say that the last five minutes of the movie were actually the best and if the rest of the film had been as good as this then it probably would have been a really great love story that you would want to watch again and again.

The DVD is rated 12 as it contains mild language and accident scene. Special features include additional scenes and outtakes and the theatrical trailer. It runs for approximately 94 minutes.

I didn't like this movie very much. Great review though.

Come on, you really think that Keanu can do "magic and chemistry"? He'd need a whole slew of Harry Potters to do that for him!
