"The Last of the Mohicans" is a very well made film, beautifuly filmed, nicely directed and with some excellent acting. It has subtlety, elegance, pace, action and romance. It does bear a strong resemblance to Fennimore Cooper's original novel, but has re-written the tale in some fascinating ways. There will be plot spoilers in this op. The basic film plot: Hawkeye is a white man raised by native Americans. When hunting with his 'father' Chingachgook and Uncas, they find signs of a Huron raiding party. Following the trail they arrive in time to rescue Major Duncan Heyward and the two young women he is escorting: Cora and Alica Munro. The ... Read the complete review

James Fenimore Cooper’s book is transformed into stirring epic adventure and a doomed romance in the turmoil of war. The story is set some time in the late 18th century, when the British and the French are fighting a bloody war on American soil. Daniel Day-Lewis makes a dashing hero as Nathaniel, the white man raised in the wilderness by Chingachook (Russell Means), the last of the Mohican tribe, along side Uncas (Eric Schweig). The other main character, and the heroin of the story, is the beautiful Cora Munro (Madeleine Stowe), courageous daughter of Munro, a British general (Maurice Roeves). Although they agree at the ... How did this film not win best film at Oscars? I first this watch this when I was like 10 maybe 11 my mum and dad was watching and they made me watch it. And I was amazed at what I saw. The story line is about the last of Mohicans as you can tell from the title. They are three men roaming colonial America I think. Chingachgook (Russell Means), his son Uncas (Eric Schweig), and his adopted white son Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis). There all in the middle of a war between Briton and France for control over North America. The basic story is the help the general's daughter from getting kidnapped. And they try to make sure they stay alive. Daniel day-Lewis ... Read the complete review

Ripping yarn with a sense of realism This film starring Daniel Day Lewis is excellent. When I first got the video out, I thought that it would while away a couple of hours. I was very pleasantly surprised by this version of Fenimore Cooper's classic story. The film, as many cinematic adaptations do, "tweaks" the original story somewhat with Lucy's character being portrayed as an older young woman than Fenimore Cooper's child. Presumably to allow for Uncus' attentions. But this does help to give the film a better balance. All the actors seemed to fit their characters perfectly with Daniel Day ... Read the complete review
