I was up late one night, and this popped on. Oh my i was glad i watched it. Its one of those surrealistic comedies that i find amazing. It has gone right into my top 10 list. The story follows an ocean documentry crew, out for revenge after a Jaguar Shark ate one of the members. It has an all star cast with the likes of Bill Murry, Kate Blanchett and Jeff Goldblum. Owen Wilson is also in it, however if this is bad news for you (some people don't like him), fear not. He dies. There wasn't one single thing that caught me with this film, it was just a mix of all the madness pilled together. For instance the main soundtrack is provided by one of the ... Wes Anderson is a director whose movies I've tried so hard to love, but have always come up a bit short. His strong visual style, dry humour and feel of quirky independent-ness throughout all his films is something which would normally appeal to me, and it's not that it doesn't, it's just whenever I watch a Anderson film I always come out a bit disappointed. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is no different, released in 2004 it is Anderson's fourth feature film, after Bottle Rocket (1996), Rushmore (1998) and The Royal Tenebaums (2001), the last of which I felt particularly underwhelmed by. The film follows the famous oceanographer Steve Zissou as he ... Read the complete review

Now I must confess, I consider myself a little bit of a film guru. I also seem to enjoy the smaller films that don't create much hype and kind of slip under the radar of most people. I tend to agree with what a lot of film critics say and am not usually a fan of the big block busters that are full of big effects and have big names in etc... So when I heard of The Life Aquaic, I thought it sounded right up my street. And I am a huge fan of Bill Murray and have always enjoyed his films. So what did I think? Tosh!! I just didn't get this film. Will tell you a little about it before I try and rip it to shreads. The Life Aquatic came out back in ... Read the complete review

Anyone viewing this expecting to see lovely under the ocean views of marine creatures in their natural environment will be truly disappointed. This is a bizarre comedy from Wes Anderson who both writes and directs this film. I must admit first of all that I am more into a different type of comedy than this eccentric style adopted by Anderson but I did enjoy it all the same. The background story - Steve Zissou, played by Bill Murray, has been a famous oceanographer for many years and his crew, Team Zissou have just returned from shooting a documentary where Zissou's partner and friend, Estaban, was eaten by the Jaguar Shark - a rare, perhaps ...
