Three very talented actors, Kevin Spacey, Laura Linney and Kate Winslet in an intense dramatic premise. Not much to complain about! The Life Of David Gale is the story of a highly intelligent college professor (Kevin Spacey) who moonlights as a death penalty abolitionist. At the beginning of the story we find Gale behind bars in texas just four days before his final meal and execution for the brutal rape and murder of his collegue and best friend, Constance (laura Linney). As his death draws close, he sends out his lawyer to find journalist Bitsy Bloom (Kate Winslet) who he has chosen to give his one and only interview to. Bitsey learns that ... David Gale is a brilliant professor, devoted father and active opponent of the death penalty. When he is found guilty of the rape and murder of a fellow campaigner, he is sentenced to death. In the final days before his execution, he contacts a public affairs magazine and offers his story to a young journalist, named Bitsy Bloom, whose work he has read and previously admired. He grants her three two-hour interviews, one on each of the days prior to his execution. Initially, he advises her that he simply wants her to tell his side of the story, but as the interviews progress, Bitsy finds herself drawn into the man's life story, and he ultimately requests that she help him ... The story is told through the eyes of David Gale as he awaits his death in jail, talking to a journalist from a local paper (Winslett) trying to find out what happend that night, as he claims innocence. Gale who was left by his wife and daughter went off the wagon, only one person was there for him ... Read the complete review

The Mrs and I settled down last night to a tub of ice cream and a good DVD for one of our frequent "date nights". We'd watched "The Life of David Gale" once before but it was a long time ago so we'd both forgotten what happened in it! We decided that it was worth another watch because we were sure we'd like it even if we couldn't remember it. So on it went. The story is all about a professor called David Gale (played by Kevin Spacey) who campaigns for the abolition of the death penalty in his spare time. He works closely with a colleague called Constance (played by Laura Linney) in trying to prove that the death penalty isn't ... Read the complete review

At face value, Alan Parker's The Life of David Gale possesses all of the ingredients required for a successful thriller. With talented Hollywood darlings Kate Winslet and Kevin Spacey leading the cast and more twists than Chubby Checker, the film could be expected to succeed. Unfortunately, thanks to questionable plot developments, stereotypical characters, and the director's yearning for a political soapbox, The Life of David Gale is a disappointment. David Gale (Kevin Spacey) is a successful college professor who's leading the charge to abolish the death penalty in the US, when he's not touching student's lives with his 'cool' ...
