Prince Eric almost drowns. There is also a scene at the end where Ursula the sea witch is in battle with Ariel and Eric which involves Ursula becoming giant. This could be frightening for some children. Generally though this movie is suitable for children. I work with children aged four and over and none of them have ever been scared while wat...more

The Little Mermaid [1990] (DVD): A must see for disney lovers (491 words)

As previously mentioned in one of my reviews, I adore cartoons. I think that The Little Mermaid is Disney's masterpiece- after The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. In fact, I was surprised that Disney ventured into such thematic elements for an animated feature which is primarily aimed at children. I believe that this film must be among the most romantic ever- and the fact that the main female character rebels against her family to run away with her love, is according to me, one of the features that made this the most different and original Disney animated film. Personally, this made the film even more enjoyable and romantic for me. Ariel is the ...  Read the complete review

I think this is my favourite Disney movie ever as well as Beauty and the Beast, which I can't seem to find on dvd which is highly annoying! I remember being pretty obsessed with this when it came out on video and I am now 25 and still love it, and now own it on dvd. The storyline is based on a young mermaid called Ariel, she is very inquisitive about humans and enjoys collecting items from their ships to keep in a special cave. Through various circumstances she falls in love with a human named Eric, and vows to win his heart, but her main problem is her lack of legs! In order to see Eric she goes to the sea witch, the evil Ursula. Ursula promises ...  Read the complete review

The Little Mermaid was released in 1989, the plot is as follows... Ariel is a 16 year old princess who also happens to be a mermaid, she is also very curious about humans. This is probably due to the fact that her father King Triton has told Ariel that contact between humans and merpeople is forbidden. One day Ariel notices a boat above and swims up with her best friend Flounder for a better look. Once on the surface she watches the humans onboard she soon spots a young man, Prince Eric. She instantly falls in love with him but will the course of true love run smooth or will the evil sea witch step in and destroy Ariel's happiness. The ...  Read the complete review

I love all the old fashioned pre-pixar Disney movies, but there are few that hold quite as big a place in my heart as this, The Little Mermaid. In 1990, when this came out, I'd just started getting pocket money from my parents in return for doing household chores, and this video was the first thing I ever purchased with my own money. Ariel is the youngest of the many daughter of King Triton, ruler of the ocean, and she's beginning to feel that life as a mermaid isn't all it's cracked up to be - she has a fascination with the world above, and collects all kinds of items relating to life on land which she rescues from shipwrecks, as well as regularly swimming ...  Read the complete review
