I think i was just a little to young to have watched the original Magic Roundabout first time round. I have vague memories of my sister watching them, which all just seem like an odd dream. However i was certinly not to young to watch the film. It's always interesting when film companies remake something that was popular when todays adults were younger. If they make it vastly different to the original the adults wouldn't be happy. However the children watching it don't know the difference. It seems almost pointless, and only angers those dissapointed. (Unless you count those who are not bothered but are pleased to see that their children can watch a moden ... Read the complete review

Once upon a time there was a children’s television programme from many years ago called “The Magic Roundabout”. It was set in a magical forest with beautifully written stories and wonderful, imaginative and quirky characters. The original programmes originated in France by Serge Danot. They were shipped to England where Eric Thompson (father of oscar-winner Emma) wrote his own stories based only what he saw in the pictures. The programme became a cult with parents enjoying it as much as children. Now there is this travesty of a film set in a village with a Magic Roundabout seeming to be the centre of things without any explanation or reason why. The characters ... Read the complete review

The Magic Roundabout was created by Serge Danot in 1965 and there were over 500 episodes made. The translations were done by Eric Thompson (father of Emma) who worked as a presenter of Play School although he actually ended up making up his own stories to go with the pictures shown. Newer versions of this old show have Nigel Planer taking on the narration and adaptations - people will recognise his voice from playing Neil in the Young Ones. There were many opinions at the time these came out that it was all drug related and that Dylan's magic carrots were an alternative to magic mushrooms as he was always spaced out. Dougal sugar rush was compared to speed and the whole ... Read the complete review

The magic roundabout has been around for years, but in 2005 they decided to make the film and relese it on DVD. I bought it for two reasons, one I have a 2 year old who I thought may enjoy it and second I love Robbie Williams so had to buy it! Dougal (Robbie Williams) after being his cheeky self and trying to steal some sweeties, releses the evil Zeebad (Tom Baker), so Dougal and his friends Ermintrude (Joanna Lumley), Brian (Jim Broadbent) and Dylan (Bill Nighy) go in search of three diamonds, they must get them before Zeebad otherwise he will make the world icy! The casting in this film is remarkable, Robbie Williams is brilliant as Dougal (He's a ... Read the complete review

This film is Fun and enjoyable, was entertaining and also better than expected. Ok great film, fun and lots of quirky humour, the characters voices are just right for each of the characters. Some younger children may get a little bored nearer to the end of the film. But Older kids will love it and most parents too. There is an easy story line to follow, with great characters. My favorite character had to be Zebedee, although they were all good, another good quality children film, for all the ... Read the complete review
