~ ~ I enjoyed actor Wesley Snipes in the “Blade” series of movies, where he plays the part of a vampire hunter. The movies are stylish and action-packed, and "Blade" is probably the best role he has so far taken on in his acting career. This was the main reason that I picked up this DVD, “The Marksman”, while browsing through the “Buy two previously viewed DVD’s for €15” section of my local video shop. A picture of the aforementioned Mr. Snipes in full combat gear on the cover, and a promising plot line about Chechen rebels attempting to cause an ecological disaster at a nuclear power station in Russia on the back cover. It would seem that Wesley Snipes is heading down that path worn by Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal before him. I am of course talking about making films that rather than being released in Cinema’s hit the Video shelf at Tesco as a straight to Video release. This difference though seems to be while Seagal and Van Damme are making low budget straight to Video releases this latest Snipes film doesn’t look as tacky as some of the others. Like Seagal movies thought The Marksman is a bit of a guilty pleasure and probably not something I’d have bought had Snipes not been in it.
