Advantages: special effects ahoy!

Disadvantages: a little good v bad pretentions but not much

The Matrix is an amazingly clever piece of sci-fi brilliance. The Wachowski Brothers have pulled off a bit a masterstroke here.

Its great fun to watch as well because of some amazing technology tricks which allows the film to take on some amazing surreal visual highs. You cant help but gawp at the screen as the characters decked in their skintight leather and classy shades mount walls, jump between skyscrapers and dodge bullets in a slow motion spectacular. And whats more these effects actually fit in with the film rather than being unncessesary add ons. The techno soundtrack is also quite nifty as well.

The plot is a little bit of a mind bender which I dont really want to spoil cause it will really grab you when it is revealed. To say too much would be unfair as you would be missing out on the fascinating complexities of it. Lets just say the world around is not everything we believe it to be...

The Matrix has put Keanu Reeves back on a high. He is brilliant as the sleek hacker known as Thomas "Neo" Anderson. Then there is Carrie-Anne Moss who combines incredible sexiness with solid steely intelligence. In fact most of the main characters are very effective in their roles.

The Matrix is pure excitement but dont think its a simple action film. There is much more depth, substance and style to it. I aint come out of a cinema so caught up in a film in ages. Its technically mind-blowing and just so damn cool!
