Most overrated ever? (The Matrix (DVD))

Am I the only person in the english speaking world to think The Matrix is the most overrated film ever?

First off, the special effects are very good, no doubt about it. Unfortunately that alone does not make a film. In fact I believe that special effects should appear seamless within the film's fabric, rather than take over the film totally.

All I ever hear anyone say about The Matrix is that the special effects are great. That's because there is nothing else worth saying.

Let's start with the story. Just about acceptable but haven't we had the machines take over the world a million times before?? The Terminator springs to mind. Pick up any 20 or 30 year old sci-fi book or comic and you will find this concept has been done to death.

The characters, non-existent. Morpheus(cringeworthy name) walks around talking like a university student who has just smoked a fistful of cannibis. "What if you woke from a dream and realised it wasn't a dream, but real..." he never answers a single question directly!!! It's like he swallowed a dictionary of cliches. "I can show you the door, but you have to walk through it, " please no!!!!

Which brings me nicely on to the diabolical script. Unoriginal story, cardboard characters and correctly if I am wrong but didn't Keanu get shot over and over again wake up and turn into superman??? He even flies away at the end!

Finally, the acting, Keanu, well what do you expect? Fishburne, barely breaks a sweat, what he is doing in this utter nonsense is a mystery to me, but he almost plays the part in automatic. The rest, well, anonymous at best.

So, sorry, but I can't recommend this derivative claptrap, I mean they're still doing the long black coat and sunglasses outfits for god's sake!!
