... lady. They move in. And that's where things start to go wrong. Everything goes wrong. The whole house starts to fall apart. The stairs fall down, the bathroom falls apart, everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. So they call in the construction companies, brothers that each runs their own arm such as a plumbing company. Everything will be sorted in 'two weeks'. Well, this is a comedy, so it will probably take longer than two weeks. In fact, mayhem ensues. Cue some very funny lines and some very funny scenes...more

Rating:

A comedy film that has the potential to put off any property developer or person thinking of home improvements, The Money Pit was released in 1986 and stars Tom Hanks and Shelley Long. A couple Walter Fielding (Tom Hanks) and Anna Crowley (Shelley Long) are evicted from their Manhattan apartment, they have to find a new house and there's not much on the market that they can afford. However their luck seems to be on the raise when they discover the home of their dreams in the form of a beautiful and huge mansion that's been sold at a cheap price. But after moving in, they soon discover that all is not what it seems, and that they have bought a "house of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A funny film that totally isn't the pits! (459 words)

The Money Pit is the funniest film in the world. Ever. There's no debate allowed, I'm afraid. It was released in 1986 and stars a very young Tom Hanks (as Walter Fielding) and Shelley Long ( as Anna Crowley/Fielding). They are a young couple who are living in Manhattan, in a lovely apartment where they're very happy. Unfortunately, the apartment belongs to Anna's ex-husband Max, who's an orchestra conductor and who is returning to New York and demanding his apartment back. So off go Walter and Anna on a house-hunting mission. They duly find a big house that they fall in love with, partly due to the romantic stories told about it by the seller, a charming old ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Money Pit (DVD): Go develop this (238 words)

The Money Pit is an eighties comedy starring a rather young looking Tom Hanks made at a time where his acting career was starting to gain momentum however this comedy while funny is not up to the standard of Big. Hanks co-star is Shelly Long who played the role of Diane in Cheers, they play a New York couple who lose their trendy Manhattan apartment and desperate for somewhere to live think they have got themselves a real bargain in the form of a huge house however they are being coned as under the surface the house is in ruin and the naive couple soon find themselves being ripped off by builders and other tradesmen. As the house around them ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review DIY Disaster (184 words)

Rating:

The Money Pit was released in 1986, and while the fashions and camerawork look dated, the basic premise hasn't aged- a struggling young couple suddenly find themselves without anywhere to live so they scrape up enough money to buy a house together. However this house is suspiciously good, and it doesn't take long before it all goes wrong, and the house literally starts falling apart in a increasingly farcical manner. This means of course that they have to get the builders and the plumbers in who mostly serve to make matters worse. There are lots of nice, strange little touches and catchphrases running through the film. My personal favourite ...  Read the complete review
