It's a great, simple set-up for a film, and at only 62 minutes, The Most Dangerous Game never bores.
Rainsford is played by hunky Joel McCrea, who does what's needed. He never quite brings out the inherent irony in the hunter becoming the hunted, but no matter, I'm not sure the film is really aiming for that anyway. A review of just the film. This is in the public domain, so cheap DVDs are plentiful. This is a film from 1932, Hollywood's golden age of horror. Although Universal was the best-known horror studio, most of the others got in on the act at least once. The Most Dangerous Game was made by RKO. It was made by the same team that made King Kong, and features the same jungle sets and many of the same cast (sadly not the big monkey himself). A Russian nobleman named Zaroff has set up on an island. Luring ships onto the rocks, he hunts the survivors for sport.
