Advantages: good film

Disadvantages: none

This film starts off in ancient Egypt, when the pharaoh Seti 1with a wife, Anck Su Namun (Patricia Velazquez: 10029 (2002), Mindhunters (2002), The Mummy Returns (2001), who isn't that faithful to her husband. She is painted with gold and black paint, which smudges if anyone touches it, and that it how the pharaoh finds out about this. But she and her boyfriend, Lord Imhotep, (Arnold Vosloo: Endangered Species (2002)
The Mummy Returns (2001)), kill the pharaoh, and then Imhotep flees as the pharaohs guards enter. At this point Anck Su Namun kills herself so that the pharaohs' guards can't kill her. Imhotep then steals her body and attempts to bring her back to life using the book of the dead, this all takes place at the legendary city of Hamunaptra. But the pharaohs' guards interrupt the ritual and Imhotep is taken and has the worst possible curse placed on him, which is the Hom-Dai, which basically means that he is mummified alive and a lot of black scarabs are poured over him.

The film then cuts to the early 1900s at the lost city of Hamunaptra, where the French foreign legion are battling the descendants of the pharaohs' guards, the Magji. The battle ends when the Magji see an apparition of a demon in the sand, they leave Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser: The Mummy Returns (2001) Monkeybone (2001) Bedazzled (2000)), to die in the desert.
It then skips to Evie Carnahan (Rachel Weisz Confidence (2002), The Shape of Things (2002), About a Boy (2002), The Mummy Returns (2001)), where she is in a library. This is where she accidentally knocks over all the books in the library, but she is the only librarian with in 100 miles of where they are so she has a permanent job. She hears a strange noise and then goes into a room full of coffins and suddenly a mummies hand rises out of the coffin. But not all is what it seems, it is actually her brother, Jonathan Carnahan (John Hannah: The rebus series), who was drunken at the time.

This is enough of the film, although this is only about the first 10-15 minutes of the film. The film then goes on to explain how Rick and Evie meet, this happens at a prison where Rick is about to be hanged (how romantic). But the film continues until they find the lost city of Hamunaptra and awaken the Mummy (Imhotep), who is out for revenge.
This film has quite a good layout, it starts off well and leads into the theme that it is going to be a horror, but actually the film is a mild comedy/horror/action. There may be a mummy out for revenge, but there are some really funny moments in the film.

The special effects in the film are outstanding, as the mummy is computer generated for about half the movie. Then Arnold Vosloo takes over as the Mummy. The rest of the special effects in the movie are quite good, as they are realistic and well thought out.
The film is one the best films that I have saw, it combines several forms of genre and it has a really realistic feel to it. This is probably because it is set in Egypt, and it involves Mummies, which are mystical things.

Overall this film is great and I recommend it to any potential buyers, viewers.
