Advantages: Fun, Fast, Fantastic
Disadvantages: None Really
I can't believe this film is ten years old already! This is a really good fun film, its a good laugh and there is lots to enjoy in it. It came out in 1999 and is directed by Stephen Summers. The film stars Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz. The film was nominated for an Oscar and won a few other awards and got lots of other nominations.
The film is set in Egypt and follows the story of an American who is on an archaeological dig at the ancient city of Hamunaptra. Whilst digging he somehow manages to awaken a Mummy. And not just any old Mummy, he awakens a rather nasty one who is rather evil. So now he must stop this evil Mummy as it tries to do some pretty nasty stuff! Sounds silly but it is actually far better than it sounds!
I liked this film. I'm not usually into films like this but this one is just really good fun. I'm not a huge fan of Brendan Fraser but in this he plays a really good part and I actually enjoyed watching him in this. Rachel Weisz played a good part as well.
The special effects in this film are very good. I was really impressed with the way they put everything together to make it look so realistic. It is very believeable when you are watching it.
There is lots of good action in this film and quite a few funny bits. This is almost like a modern day Indiana Jones, if you forget there is not a modern day Indiana Jones. The stroy moves at a great pace and keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through.
The film runs for 125 minutes which really surprises me. It does not feel like you have been watching it for over two hours which is really a credit to the film as the time just flies by. There is so much going on that I never got bored or starting looking at my watch.
The film is rated as 12. There is some wearing and some violence and some scenes that might scare children. However this is really a film that most members of the family could happily watch together without any real problems.
The DVD itself is ok, it has all the features you would expect from a film like this. Things like trailers etc....
Overall this is a really good film. There is lots to keep everyone happy, the storyline is good if a little silly. There a are lots of little bits of humor which make the film more enjoyable and you are constantly on the edge of your seat. If you have never seen the Mummy I would say its a film you should really give a try. The Mummy is great!
Summary: A Great Film
