Combining musical numbers with comedy, The Muppet Show centred on the efforts of Kermit the Frog and his team of performers to put on a weekly show, featuring both the onstage acts as well as the backstage problems. Each week a new guest star, among the most distinguished entertainers of the time, would appear to participate in some of the skits and assist Kermit in making order out of the backstage chaos. Although the humour of The Muppet Show was often more adult and occasionally risque than the later Muppet endeavours, it was still appropriate for every member of the family. SEASON ONE contains all 24 episodes of the program's first year (the 1976-77 television season).Newest Review: ... the guest stars, musical numbers, Sandler and Waldorff's heckling from the balcony, as well as one or two things that ... more ... disappeared quite quickly after the first series.
Some of the guest appearances in this series include Bruce Forsyth, Vincent Prince, Twiggy, Juliet Prowse, The Mummenshanz and Paul Williams to name a few. Younger viewers may struggle to recognise some of the stars, but this isn't really too much of an issue, as all the guests get into the spirit of the show and even if you don't know who they are, you can still enjoy the sketches they take part in.

I remember as kid watching 'The Muppet Show' repeats with my family and loving every minute of it. I'm a little too young to recall the original series, so this box set gave me the opportunity to see the early shows for the very first time. The shows themselves certainly aren't up to the standard of later series', however they are all still entertaining and I think any fan of The Muppets' or Jim Henson would find them enjoyable to watch. The most interesting thing is that the puppeteers are still getting to grips with the characters and developing them on screen. Pigs, frogs, talking vegetables and dancing chickens. I'm on about my favourite TV show The Muppets again. Disney (unfortunately) have bought out my beloved fuzzy puppets and to make their money's worth they have started to release box sets of the Muppet seasons. My old video box set ;s quality was starting to deteriorate due to overuse so I thought I would treat myself to Season One of the Muppet Show on DVFD when I saw it in the Amazon sale or a fantastic £17.99.
