The Namesake is a movie by Mira Nair who is internationally recognized, and is based on award winning book by Jhumpa Lahiri. the movie has both English & Hindi Language.

Story :

The story is about an Indian Couple living in USA. Earlier back in India in 1970's ashoke mets with a Train accident but survives that and goes to USA, but come backs to marry Ashima as thier marriage is arranged. Takes Ashima with him to USA where he is settled in new York. Ashima takes some time to adjust to the US lifestyle as she is from India.
After some years they have a son born and Ashoke names him Gogal after his fathers Favourite Russian Author. So Gogol is now being brought up in US. so now the story starts where Gogol is in a fix between the American culture outside when he is with his friends & Indian culture when he is at home. His friends make fun of his name Gogol which is unusual according to them, and he starts to hate his name & blames his parents for keeping such a unusual name for him.
So he changes his name to Nikhil and calls himself Nick and starts dating an American girl, his parents are agianst it as they want him to settle down with an Indian girl.
As Gogol's parents has a strong Indian culture & in so many years have not been Affected by the American Culture.

So Ashoke decides to to change the view of life for Gogol & tell him why he kept his name Gogol. Also tells him about the Train Incident which happened with him earlier.
After this what happens is you can find out by watching the movie, What Happens to Gogol? TO Ashoke? Is Ashoke able to change Gogols view etc.

My Say:
The title is so much suited to the movie. This movie brings out brilliantly the subject of people who are stuck between Western & Eastern lifestyle.
The movie is good to watch because of the story & the performance given by all the people who are associated with it. Mira Nairs direction & Screenplay is simply brilliant.
Irfan Khan & Tabu are great actors, and they just give another fine performance in this film, both of them are highly expressive even if they are not saying any Dialogue.
Kal Penn give a good performance seeing by the performance he has given in his earlier films where he plays a happy go college guy, over here he has done a good job.
There are some good scenes in the movie, the movie is a little slow in starts but grabs your attention as the story moves on specially after the birth of thier Son.
so overall a good movie to watch.
