A review of the Momentum Pictures DVD. This is a kind-of horror film from 1972. It's intended to serve as a prequel to Henry James' classic kind-of ghost story The Turn of the Screw. That story was very successfully filmed in the early 60s as The Innocents. A prequel is completely unnecessary of course, as the original relies for its effect on ambiguity - to spell out what happened shows a stunning lack of appreciation of the source material. Henry James is the master of subtlety and understatement, so who better to direct a film based on his work than Michael Winner, the master of... um... Charles Bronson shooting people?
