Halloween is one of the only holidays in which I morph into a complete Scrooge, gone are the days of cute kiddies in adorable costumes going door to door, with their parents anxiously lingering in the background, fun parties with apple bobbing contests are gone. Nowadays it’s ruled by teenagers, often on their way home from school, harassing people for money or “treats” and threatening them with “tricks” if they don’t hand something over, whether it be as simple as throwing and egg, decorating the garden with loo roll or reaching more extreme measures like putting fireworks through letter boxes. I refuse to spend my husbands hard earned money on goodies and treats to ... Read the complete review

I saw Nightmare before Christmas for the first time in the cinema when I was just turning twelve-years-old and I felt it was simply the most beautiful of movies I had ever seen. I simply adored it. I immediately fell in love with Tim Burton and his artistry. This is a beautiful movie for both children and adults. The animation is beautiful and the score is simply haunting. Danny Elfman was at his peak in composing the soundtrack for this enchanting fantasy, musical. This movie is simply timeless in it's beauty and in it's tribute to the old Rankin / Bass Holiday specials and Dr. Seuss has become a classic by itself. I don't have words to express the love I have for this ... Read the complete review

The nightmare before christmas, is directed by the infamous Tim Burton, a man who excels in the creepy and weird. It was first released in the early nineties, while I was still a child, but I love it just as much now, as I did then. Its a great film, for both older children and adults, with a great sondtrack to go with it! The story starts with an amazing halloween celebration organised by Jack Skellington the Pumpkin King. But all is not well, and Jack longs for a more meaningful existance. Whilst walking in the forest, brooding his problems, he discovers a group of trees with pictures drawn on them. He opens the door on the tree with a christmas picture on ... Read the complete review

A gathering post for Goths, Emos, horror fans, children's fiction afficianados, Tim Burton nerds, and just anyone who (like me) find the annual fifty-five day holiday between Hallowe'en and Christmas to be the most wonderfully atmospheric, cozy, scary, life-affirming time of the year, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is one of the truly "cult" movies of the past two decades. Other animations, like "Toy Story" or "The Lion King", maybe have been more popular and used newer technology, but after fifteen years their spin-offs and merchandising sales are now pretty minimal. 1993's "The Nightmare Before Christmas", ... When I remembered that The Nightmare Before Christmas was made in 1994, it made me realise what an incredible revolution it provoked, (and not just that of inspiring a great mass of gothic teenagers worshiping it) as it is still an outstanding piece of film today and really set the standard for stop-motion animation. Set between the lands of Halloween, Christmas, and of course the real world, this quirky little tale tells of Jack Skeleton, who, as he grows ever weary of his post as the pumpkin king, stumbles into a wonderful place like nothing he's ever seen before; Christmas Town. As Jack decides he wants to save Santa the hassle and do Christmas ... Read the complete review
