Advantages: Good casting, interesting characters
Disadvantages: sometimes a little predictable but i am nit picking
The OC is a teen drama much like One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl that is televised in the UK on Channel 4. This review will be of Series 1 out of the 4 series that were produced.
The programme OC is set in Orange County and follows the trials and tribulations of a group of teenagers who have to deal with the highs and lows that comes with teenage life. Ryan (played by Ben Mckenzie) plays the bad boy who comes from the poor area of Chino and is adopted and took in by Sandy Cohen and his family. Sandy Cohen is an attorney who takes in Ryan when his parents throw him out. There family consists of Seth (Sandy's Son) who becomes close friends with Ryan and Kirsten (Sandy's wife) who whilst having reservations of Ryan being in their home, does eventually create a close relationship with Ryan.
Seth finds advice Ryan gives helpful and eventually captures the girlfriend of his dreams Summer. He best friend Marissa is instantly attracted to Ryan (mutual interest) though at the beginning of the series she has a boyfriend Luke. These relationships evolve over the series.
My Opinion
I find this and One Tree Hill very entertaining as the scriptwriting combines humour and drama in one show.
The Cast provide strong portrayals of their characters with the character of Seth and Summer providing the very witty parts of the story. Seth played by Adam Brody becomes i believe integral to the show as he can provide humour throughout in this body language and acting. His combination with Summer (Rachel Bilson) does not seem probable in reality but in this show anything can happen and their combination brings along a great combinition. In comparison the characters of Marissa and Ryan are very dramatic and create the perfect Angst that a teenage drama needs. They balance out Seth and Summer's humour and take on darker storylines and portray more serious messages. The carry off these roles well, in particular Ryan (Ben McKenzie) and Seth (Adam Brody) are very different characters but when in a scene together, can be very funny. The adults in this drama are also given a lot of airtime. In particular Sandy, Kirsten, Caleb, Julie and Jimmy, (respective parent's of Seth, Caleb (grandfather of Seth) and respective parents of Marissa) are given their own story and tangled relationships like the younger cast.
Definately worth watching, brilliant TV.
Summary: Brilliant show - One Tree Hill Fans must watch!
