Rating:
(Film only review) Introduction --------------- A young mother is stranded alone in a large, isolated house which she cannot leave as her children are allergic to sunlight. Then some new servants arrive and things become sinister. The Cast ----------- Nicole Kidman heads the cast as Grace Stewart and does a reasonable job of portraying the anger and helplessness she feels being trapped in a house with two young children. However, surprisingly, the Oscar winner is acted off the screen by Alakina Mann, as her daughter Anne. Mann is an absolute revelation in her first big screen role. Her part is crucial as it pins the whole film ... Read the complete review

(Film only review) The Others, a film starring Nicole Kidman as the mother and lone mother of her 2 children in a mansion in jersey, Anne and Nicholas are the 2 children. The film starts as 3 caretakers are employed to help Grace (Kidman) in her challenge if keeping her children alive and well (more difficult than first said when realising they had an allergy to any sunlight). The story follows on from strange occurances in the house, the curtains keep opening and the doors become either unlocked or the piano unlocked, and Anne keeps seeing some old woman and a young boy called Victor along with his mother. Grace, not believing Anne decided to ... Read the complete review

The Others ----------------------- THE PLOT -------------------------- The film starts off with the women screaming, out of nowhere appear three servants, Nicole Kidman's character Grace invites them in and gets them to look after her two children Anne & Nicholas, who have a strange condition which means they are allergic to light and before they can enter a room, all the curtains have to be closed. Then Anne starts hearing weird noises, but Grace doesn't believe her and tells her to stop lying and scaring Nicholas. The rest of the film will have you jumping with terror in a second, but then you'll calm down and ... Read the complete review

Rating:
Pencil thin and moonlight beautiful, Nicole Kidman has always been a startling actress, featuring in some challenging and memorable films, born of much more substance than those which her ex Tom Cruise has championed. She belies her Australian roots and transcends the earthbound baseness of the flesh. It is fitting then that this vision of loveliness should be given the chance with the eerie film The Others to come firmly out into the cold light of day to seize the moment. This film is self consciously serious, and avowedly earnest, the sort of studied and mannered exploitation of the supernatural and ghostly which seems to have disappeared without trace these ... I was looking forward to seeing The Others ever since it was released in the cinema. I didn’t see it in the cinema though, and caught it on video yesterday afternoon when I had a couple of hours spare. I’ve been excited about this film, I had heard a lot about this film, but I was sadly slightly disappointed. It wasn’t what I expected, actually nothing at all like I expected, but maybe my expectations were too high which is what spoilt the film for me, I don’t know, either way I found this a pretty mediocre film. I expected a horror film. Infact the night I rented it, a couple of girls watched it and they said they enjoyed it and it was ... Read the complete review
